Student Work Permits
Banning High School
Students at Banning High School who are currently employed or planning to begin a job must obtain an official Work Permit to comply with California labor laws. This page outlines everything you need to know about requesting, renewing, and maintaining a work permit.
Important Dates

All active work permits must be renewed on or before March 31, 2023.

Summer permits are issued late May through early June.

The school is closed for three weeks in July—plan ahead!
How to Apply for a Work Permit
Follow the steps below to request a new work permit:

Obtain Form B1-1
Pick up a Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit (Form B1-1) from the Administration Building front desk or download it from the California Department of Education. -
Complete the Application
Be sure to fill out:-
Full legal name, address, and student ID

Social Security Number
-
Employer information and job duties
-
Signatures from employer and parent/guardian

Submit the Completed Form
Turn in the signed form to the Assistant Principal's Secretary (AP Secretary)

Meet Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a permit, students must:-
Maintain a 2.0 GPA (current 9-week term)
-
Have no more than 1 F in core classes
-
Demonstrate excellent attendance and citizenship

Follow all site behavior expectations

Processing Time
Permits take 3–5 business days to process. Students will be notified when ready for pick-up. -
Pick Up & Sign
Students must sign the permit in blue or black ink (blue preferred) and deliver it to their employer.
Permit Renewal
To renew an existing permit:
-
Notify the AP Secretary after the end of the current grading period.
-
No new Form B1-1 is required for renewals with the same employer.

Pick up and sign the updated permit when notified.
If you are working for a new or second employer, a new Form B1-1 is required.
Work Hour Regulations
Ages 16–17
-
Up to 4 hours on school days, 8 hours on non-school days
-
Up to 48 hours per week
-
Work allowed between 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. (until 12:30 a.m. before non-school days)
Ages 14–15

Up to 3 hours on school days, 8 hours on non-school days

Up to 18 hours per week

Work allowed between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (until 9 p.m. in summer)
Students in approved Work Experience Education (WEE) programs may have different hour allowances.
